Robert Sterling
Position: Interactive Business Strategist
Biography:
Rob Sterling has advised companies on their interactive endeavors for more than 10 years. At Strategy Café, he helps clients develop and execute successful interactive strategies. Focused on providing clients with more options in the way they face their customers and prospects over the internet, Rob gives our clients better choices and more information, which they can use to make better decisions and improve their rates of conversion and retention.
A veteran of the dotcom boom and bust, Rob is keenly aware of the mistakes companies make on the web. He views much of his work at Strategy Café as preventive medicine: helping companies avoid the pitfalls that often lead to failure.
In 1996, Rob left the securities industry to develop interactive software for Checkfree Corp., at its Investment Services division in Jersey City, NJ. His projects included some of the earliest web brokers, including Jack White, National Discount Brokers and American Express Financial Services. Other successes while at Checkfree include launching the first internet stock market simulator and contributing to the first version of the Open Financial Exchange data standard.
After leaving Checkfree, Rob founded the financial services practice at New-York-based Jupiter Research, a leading interactive research and analytics firm. Among his clients were E*Trade, Charles Schwab, Bank of America, Wachovia and Bank One. At Jupiter, Rob had the opportunity to meet with or interview the CEOs of hundreds of dotcom era start-ups, as well as business unit heads leading traditional companies' forays into the online world. Rob has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Economist and Financial Times.
